CLASS DESCRIPTION This Contemporary class is designed as a laboratory for whole-self exploration and expression. We utilize all movements and “techniques” available to us in order to complete our tasks. Our peers act as motivating forces but we never lose sight of personal strengths and goals. Floor work acts to strengthen our connection to the Earth and roots our grounded-ness. Momentum allows us to perform complicated bouts for extended periods of time effortlessly. Polyrhythms add complexity and a stronger sense of accomplishment while dynamism demonstrates our power and vulnerability. All of these ideas are explored in our work together. And, at the end of the class, we will explore contemporary repertory from BODYART and weight sharing. INSTRUCTOR BIO Leslie Scott is the founder and AD of BODYART, a NYC and LA based multi-media contemporary dance company. Her work has been featured on stages across the globe including Edinburgh Fringe Festival, The Ailey Citigroup Theater, The Joyce Soho, The Cunningham Studios, City Center, Dixon Place and Bass Performance Hall. Scott has set work on DC’s CityDance Ensemble and was the choreographer-in-residence for Elon University.Scott has worked with photographer Lois Greenfield and was the staff photographer for ADF. She has worked with Jodi Kaplan & Associates for 10 years as both an International Project Manager, and later an International Festival Producer with the annual Edinburgh Festival, Beijing Festival, Bryant Park Festival and the Jazz @ Lincoln Center Festival. http://www.bodyartdance.com/
