Marigny Opera Ballet Announces Plans for Season 2 and New Blog
Next month rehearsals begin for the second season of the Marigny Opera Ballet. Dancers Anna Iosipiv and Trey Mauldwin will be joined by Donavan Davis, Kellis Oldenburg, Phillip Rush, Gretchen Erickson and John Bozeman. Will Byram returns as Company Apprentice, and will be joined this year by Ashlie Russell.
Rehearsal Director Maya Taylor has been commissioned to choreograph the season’s opening program (October 2-4): “Orfeo,” a full-length ballet featuring an original orchestral score by local composer Tucker Fuller. The 13-piece chamber orchestra will perform the new score under the direction of music director, Francis Scully. The production designer will be Academy-Award-winning designer C. Robert Holloway.
Following the opening program, the Company will present the following three programs:
“Christmas Concerto” (December 10-13, 2015) – a full-length work to music of Arcangelo Corelli and George Frideric Handel, with new choreography by Donna Crump, Nikki Hefko and Maritza Mercado-Narcisse.
“Emerging Choreographers” (March 18-20, 2016) – new works by promising local choreographers
“Program 4 – Mixed Repertory” (May 13-15, 2016) – audience favorites from the Company’s inaugural season, along with a new work to be announced.
