Marigny Opera House Announces New Dance Festival 2016
For its 2016 New Dance Festival, the Marigny Opera House will premiere three contemporary dance pieces by
local choreographers Will Byram, Maritza Mercado-Narcisse and the team of Angelle Hebert & Shannon Stewart. The four were selected by a dance panel that included Neil Barclay (Executive Director, CAC); Parisa Khobdeh (Dancer, Paul Taylor’s American Modern Dance), and Chris Waddington (Journalist).
The contemporary works, all accompanied by live music, will be:
722 Toulouse, inspired by Tennessee Williams' play Vieux Carré, choreographed by Will Byram, and with music by the Polymnia Quartet (Barber String Quartet in B Minor).
That space between, choreographed by Maritza Mercado-Narcisse, will be accompanied by cellist Philip von Maltzahn, performing the George Crumb and György Ligeti Sonatas for Solo Cello.
Birthday Sue, choreographed and danced by Angelle Hebert and Shannon Stewart, is a post-modern birthday celebration, accompanied by singer LadyBabyMiss.
